May 1, 2024 - Changes Regarding South Dakota Medical Cannabis Cards - Effective May 13, 2024, the following changes will be made to all patient and caregiver cards from the South Dakota Medical Cannabis Program. Patient and caregivers’ cards printed prior to May 13, 2024, will have the previous card format. Please note that all cards will be uniform after May 13, 2025.
November 16, 2023 - Cardholder Purchase Limits in South Dakota Bulletin - South Dakota utilizes a rolling limit that allows for the purchase of three ounces of flower over a 14-day period. The 14-day rolling limit is tracked when medical cannabis is physically dispensed to a Patient or Caregiver. The amounts purchased are subtracted from the three-ounce total. Once 14 days have elapsed from the date of a purchase, that specific purchase amount is added back to the three-ounce limit. This same process applies for each purchase made by the Patient or Caregiver. For an example of how rolling limits work, see below.

December 19, 2022 - Operational Extention Request Form - A recent change to Administrative Rule 44:90:03:16 allows extension for an establishment, chosen through the lottery system, that is unable to become operational within one year of becoming certified. The establishment may submit to the Department, at least two weeks prior to the expiration of the certificate, written documentation of the efforts made by the establishment to meet the deadline.

The METRC training will help you with learning the system, better allow you to maneuver around in METRC, and to assist you in learning how to enter your product into METRC.
